Abstract

Diode lasers provide, in principle, a low beam parameter product with near flat top power distribution. By launching this beam into a standard fiber its profile is deteriorated further. By directly mounting a high brightness direct diode laser on top of a trepanning optic, we avoid additional power loss and beam parameter product reduction and therefore enable aluminum welding already at a medium power level.
